One of the premier junior players in the Southeast, Alejandro Moreno of Knoxville, Tenn., has signed a letter of intent in men's tennis to join the Auburn program for the 2022-23 season, Auburn head coach Bobby Reynolds announced today.
Rated the top recruit in the state of Tennessee, Moreno holds the No. 4 rating among players in the Southeast and No. 11 nationally for prospects in his recruiting class. He graduated from the Tennessee Online Public School (TOPS) and will be coming to Auburn in August for the start of the fall semester.
"Alejandro has been at the top of our recruiting list for the past couple of years and we are excited for his decision to become an Auburn Tiger," Reynolds said. "During the recruitment process, we realized not only was he an unbelievable tennis player, but more importantly a person with great morals, integrity, and work ethic.
"He is a player who has been on the rise for the past four years, with his best tennis still in the future. It is not often you find a player who has the maturity and personal goals/plan that Alejandro possesses, and it's evident with his decision to wait a year before playing college tennis and independently train/compete this past year.
"Alejandro is an unbelievable competitor with an aggressive game style who will make an immediate impact to our singles and doubles lineups next season."
Holding a UTR of 12.93, Moreno has won regional and state championships in singles, doubles and mixed doubles.
No. 28 Auburn (14-4) travels to No. 33 Ole Miss for an SEC match Friday at 3 p.m.
