AUSTIN, Texas – Auburn track & field was led by yet another senior in day three of Texas Relays as Keira McCarrell won Friday's javelin competition with a throw of 56.56m/185-7.
McCarrell's mark is the top in the nation this season.
"I cannot be more thankful for all of the support I've received from my teammates and coaches all season long," McCarrell said. "Those close to me know how much it means to me. I'm beyond blessed to be in this program and hearing all their screams in the stands when that throw landed made all those long, hard days worth it."
The Salem, Oregon native's top throw came on her fifth of six attempts, and set a new career best by over 14 feet. Her throw also ranks at the fifth-farthest in program history.
"It was great to see Keira come out and compete in a very good field of throwers and hit a PR," Auburn throws coach Pat Ebel said. "She had a great series that included two throws over her old PR. I'm very proud of her effort today."
Teammate Ashley Carter also had a career day for the Auburn javelin squad. Carter reached a new personal best via a 53.40m/175-2 throw to finish fourth at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Also contributing to the Tigers' highlight reel from day three was the sprints trio of Aalliyah Francis, Brandon Smiley and Jason Reese, all three of which recorded PRs in the 100m.
Freshman Francis finished fifth in the women's 100m dash to punch her ticket to Saturday's finals. Her time of 11.45 seconds beats her collegiate debut of 11.50 seconds from a week ago at the Tiger Track Classic.
Smiley shaved over a tenth of a second off his PR to drop to 10.41 seconds while Reese dropped from 10.61 to 10.54.
