AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn men's golf freshman Brendan Valdes was named SEC Freshman of the Week following an outstanding performance earlier in the week at the Tiger Invitational, as announced by the conference office Wednesday.

Valdes shot 67-70-68 (205) to finish second and set new career-low marks for 18, 36 and 54 holes. His 11-under tally also broke the Tiger Invitational record as the lowest total score by an Auburn golfer in the 10-year history of the event.

The previous record of 10-under, 206 was set during the 2018 season by Ben Schlottman.

In the first top-five finish of his career, Valdes posted a 13:4 birdie to bogey ratio and recorded his first career eagle on hole 16 during the final round of play.

The Orlando, Florida product is averaging 72.58 strokes per round and is also one of only three Southeastern Conference freshmen to have logged a top-three finish thus far this season.

Auburn men's golf returns to action Sunday, March 13 and Monday, March 14 as they gear up to compete in the General Hackler Championship in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
