BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Auburn women's golf team picked up where they left off a year ago at SECs, surging into first place at the 2022 SEC Championship with a first-round score of 288 (E) at Greystone Golf and Country Club on Wednesday.

Megan Schofill and Mychael O'Berry both shot under par to lead the way.

"We shot even par on a blistery day," Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said. "I was very impressed by the discipline of our players to stick to the game plan by attacking accessible pins and playing away from others. Pars are always a good score.

"Very solid individual performances by Megan and Mychael shooting under par. Megan flat out played solid, and Mychael's round ended with a chip-in birdie on 18."

Schofill jumped out to a quick start with birdies on the second and third holes. She added a third birdie on No. 16 and finished with a 2-under 70 (-2) to place in her a tie for third overall. O'Berry is tied for fifth after shooting a 71 (-1) with three birdies, including the birdie on 18.

Sophomore Elina Sinz and Anna Foster are both among the top 25 individually as well. Sinz made a late birdie to get to 1-over and is tied for 11th while Foster is tied for 22nd on the individual leaderboard with a first-round score of 74 (+2).

Kaleigh Telfer carded a 77 (+3) for Auburn in Wednesday's opening round. The senior is currently in a tie for 49th overall.
