BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Auburn women's golf team led wire-to-wire at the SEC Championship this week and won the stroke play portion of the tournament Friday to earn the No. 1 seed in match play. The Tigers shot even-par in all three rounds.

It's the first time Auburn has finished first in stroke play since 2012.

Junior Megan Schofill fired a 70 (-2) in Friday's third round, her third straight round under par, and finished second overall to earn SEC individual stroke play runner-up honors. With a total score of 207 (-9), Schofill set the Auburn all-time 54-hole record at the SEC Championship.

"Her goal was to be top three individually. She accomplished that," Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said. "She played great, made a lot of putts this week. I'm just incredibly proud of her. She really led us and kind of set the pace. We had a couple hiccups here and there, and she was there to pick us up. She absolutely did her job."

All five Auburn players finished inside the top 50 individually. Senior Mychael O'Berry earned a top-10 finish as she carded a 1-over 73 in the third round and shot even par for the week to place in a tie for sixth overall. She made three birdies on the day.

Kaleigh Telfer and Anna Foster both saved their best rounds for the final day of stroke play and moved up the leaderboard as a result. Telfer finished tied for 30th after shooting a 72 (E) on Friday, and Foster moved up into a tie for 49th with a third-round score of 73 (+1).

Sophomore Elina Sinz carded a 77 (+5) in the final round and placed tied for 36th overall.

The Tigers advanced to match play where they will face 8-seed Tennessee in the quarterfinals. The match is scheduled to begin Friday at 4:40 p.m. CT. The first round of match play was moved up to Friday because of impending weather in the area over the weekend.

"When we've played good match play, we stay assertive but play smart aggressive," Luellen said. "Pars can win holes. You just don't want to give holes away to bogeys."
