SEA ISLAND, Ga. – Auburn men's golf concluded Wednesday's round of stroke play at Sea Island Golf Club at 6-over to place tied for ninth to open this year's SEC Championship.

Junior Alex Vogelsong led the Tigers, shooting even par for the day to finish inside the top-20.

Fellow juniors C.J. Easley and Austin Coggin shot 71 (+1) and 72 (+2), respectively.

"We just didn't play our best today, and that happens," Tigers head coach Nick Clinard said. "We've competed in windy conditions quite a bit this spring, so I know we're capable of making those needed adjustments over the next two days in order to get ourselves into match play this weekend."

The Tigers look to make the jump into the top eight in order to keep their championship dreams alive and progress to the match play stage on Saturday and Sunday.

Vanderbilt leads the team standings through 18 holes at seven strokes below par. Ryan Hall of South Carolina leads the player field following a round-one 66 (-4).

Auburn tees off its second stanza beginning at 7 a.m. CT on the first hole. The Tigers will be paired with Mississippi State and Kentucky for Thursday's competition.
