In 1997, Auburn softball competed in its inaugural season. Throughout the 2022 campaign, we are celebrating the many faces, moments and victories that have shaped our program over the last 25 years.

As part of our 25 Years of Auburn Softball celebration, we're checking in with alumni from every era of the program to share their memories of being a Tiger.

Due up is Lexie Handley (2019-2021). Transferring to the Plains from Akron, Handley was a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection. The Mogadore, Ohio, native was named an Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete in 2019 and 2021.

Q: Why did you decide to continue your softball career at Auburn?
Handley: I chose Auburn because I wanted to compete at the highest level of the game, and I was excited to experience a new culture in the south and further gain a greater understanding of people.

Q: What is your favorite on-field memory?
Handley: My favorite on field memory was in 2019. We were playing Texas A&M at home. It was the Sunday game of the series.  We were down the whole entire game, and I believe in the seventh inning, we scored eight runs. Justus Perry hit a grand slam that lifted us to beat A&M. We also swept them in the series. I remember watching her trot home, and I knew in that moment that I loved Auburn.

Q: What do you consider your biggest accomplishment during your collegiate career – on or off the field?
Handley: I think my biggest accomplishment that I'm proud of would be graduating with honors from Auburn University. I hold that school close to my heart, and I know that that degree is powerful. I worked really hard for that piece of paper! I wear my Auburn ring with pride all the time  and will always be thankful for the education that I received there both in the classroom and on the field.

Q: What is one of your favorite memories with a teammate?
Handley: My senior year Justus, Kenna, Alyssa and I all lived in the same apartment complex. There were many nights where we would just hand out, eat and have the best time doing absolutely nothing. There's not one specific memory that stands out, but I think knowing how much fun we had together makes me happy.

Q: Looking back at your career, what is one word you'd use to describe it?
Handley: I think the word that would describe my adventure would just be growth. Mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually - I grew in all these aspects. I'm thankful for the highs and the lows that help me to get to where I am right now.

Q: Who influenced your softball career the most?
Handley: My dad! He believed in me from the very beginning. He's  always been supportive of my crazy dreams (even when they included playing six years of college softball). He never let me quit on myself, but he kept me focused and humble and helped me to realize what my passions were.

Q: What was your favorite uniform combo?
Handley: Orange/White/Orange

Q: What advice would you give to current/future Auburn softball student-athletes?
Handley: Take in every moment. Every hill, every valley, every tear and every smile. All those moments - no matter how small – you'll learn one day have helped to you to reach part of your potential.

Q: If you can give a message to the Auburn Family, what would it be?
Handley: Auburn is special. I am so thankful for the time that I spent there. It helped me to develop into a strong, confident woman with a voice of power and a spirit of fearlessness.

Q: What degree did you earn? What is your current career path?
Handley: My undergraduate degree was in nutrition science. I am currently earning a master's in sport coaching from The Ohio State University, and I plan on coaching Division I softball after graduation
