In 1997, Auburn softball competed in its inaugural season. Throughout the 2022 campaign, we are celebrating the many faces, moments and victories that have shaped our program over the last 25 years.
As part of our 25 Years of Auburn Softball celebration, we're checking in with alumni from every era of the program to share their memories of being a Tiger.
A transfer from Ball State, Kasey Angulo (2002-03) played her final two seasons on the Plains. The Glendale, Arizona native was named to the All-SEC Second Team in 2002.
Q: Why did you decide to continue your softball career at Auburn?
Angulo: Auburn offered me an opportunity to further my education without the financial burden on my family. But more than that, Auburn just felt like home. From my initial visit, to attending classes, playing softball, tailgating, attending other sporting events in support of my friends, I just felt like this is where I belonged.
Q: What is your favorite on-field memory?
Angulo: One of my favorite on-field memories was beating Alabama on the Plains. The feel of victory when everyone counted you as the underdog is the best feeling of all. Alabama is always expected to dominate Auburn, but when we come out on top it's the greatest feeling of all.
Q: What do you consider your biggest accomplishment during your collegiate career – on or off the field?
Angulo: My biggest accomplishment during my collegiate career was being thousands of miles away from my family, learning that my mom was diagnosed with stage four sarcoma and being determined to finish school when I just wanted to be with my mom. I honestly had a moment where I struggled to hold myself together. To this day, I am most grateful for the support of my teammates who helped to encourage and pull me through.
Q: Why is one of your favorite memories with a teammate?
Angulo: One of my favorite memories is with Rasheedah Hameed. She was one of the first black softball players. When I was offered a scholarship to attend, I became the second. We had an instant bond that we still have today. Together we made history.
Q: Looking back at your career, what is one word you'd use to describe it?
Angulo: Resilient. It's not where I started, but where I finished. Along the way I faced adversity, difficulty and was stretched, but I had a choice. I made mostly the right ones, worked hard and recovered quickly to continue being successful.
Q: Who influenced your softball career the most?
Angulo: My dad. Andy Angulo. We have an estranged/strained relationship since the passing of mother, but without him I would have never played the game.
Q: What was your favorite uniform combo?
Angulo: My favorite uniform combination was the all-white with the pants.
Q: What advice would you give to current/future Auburn softball student-athletes?
Angulo: Put in the work, have fun, but leave nothing left to chance. For when you look back, you should have no regrets because you gave the game your all.
Q: If you can give a message to the Auburn Family, what would it be?
Angulo: Thank you. Thank you for your unwavering support, your time, sponsorship, traveling to support us, cheering us on, celebrating during the highs and picking us up during the lows. You'll always be in my heart.
Q: What degree did you earn? What is your current career path?
Angulo: Business administration with a minor in marketing. Currently, I own an Airbnb and work in property management as well as a being mother and wife.
