AUBURN, Ala. – Three Auburn student-athletes earned recognition as Academic All-District selections from the College Sports Information Directors of America, it was announced this week.
Aria Brusch (gymnastics), Yu Chen (women's tennis) and Tad Maclean (men's tennis) were selected to the District 4 At-Large team, which includes nominees from all Division 1 schools in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.
Brusch was a major contributor to Auburn's fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championships this season, helping break every team program record along the way. The Auburn junior was one of the nation's best on bars, earning All-SEC honors for her performance in the event. Brusch, with a 3.97 overall GPA in psychology, was an Academic All-District selection last season as well, along with earning WGCA Scholastic All-America and SEC Academic Honor Roll recognition during her career.
Chen finished her senior season with the Auburn women's tennis team tied for the team lead in singles victories. She posted a 29-11 record overall and went 21-5 in dual matches with an 11-2 mark in SEC play. Chen provided the clinching point in Auburn's NCAA Second Round win over Georgia Tech to send the Tigers to the round of 16 for the third time in program history. She has a 3.97 GPA in marketing, and she has earned multiple selections to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, Athletic Director's Honor Roll, and as an ITA Scholar-Athlete.
Maclean is a two-time All-American and a three-time NCAA doubles championships qualifier. He and partner Finn Murgett advanced to the NCAA doubles final in 2021, and they are a top-8 seed in the doubles championship this season. He is in the career top 10 for doubles wins (71) and combined wins (136). Maclean graduated with honors in May with a degree in accounting, and he has earned recognition as part of the SEC Community Service Team, SEC Academic Honor Roll, Athletic Director's Honor Roll and an ITA Scholar-Athlete.
The Academic All-District team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. The At-Large team includes student-athletes from all sports other than football, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, volleyball and track & field.
First-team Academic All-District nominees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot, whose honorees will be announced in mid-June.
