STILLWATER, Okla. – For the second straight year, the Auburn women's golf team will have to rally at the NCAA Regional. The Tigers shot 313 (+25) in Monday's opening round at Karsten Creek Golf Club and are currently in ninth place with two rounds to play. The top four teams from the Stillwater Regional will advance to the NCAA Championship.
Seniors Mychael O'Berry and Kaleigh Telfer each shot a 5-over 77 to lead the way for Auburn. O'Berry started strong with back-to-back birdies while Telfer made all three of her birdies on the back nine. The duo is tied for 25th on the individual leaderboard.
Sophomore Anna Foster is one shot back, carding a 78 (+6) in the first round. She's tied for 30th overall. Junior Megan Schofill is tied for 46th at 9-over par.
Baylor grabbed the early lead Monday at 4-over (292), followed by Clemson (293), Oklahoma State (296), Arizona State (296), Michigan State (303), Furman (308), North Carolina State (311), California (312), Auburn (313), Campbell (315), Tulane (322) and Illinois State (327).
A year ago, Auburn was in 12th place heading into the final round at the NCAA Louisville Regional and finished with a team total of 286 (-2) on the last day to move up eight spots and clinch its spot at the NCAA Championship.
The Tigers will begin their climb up the leaderboard this year with the second round Tuesday, teeing off at 8 a.m. CT. Live scoring can be found on Golfstat.com.
