NORMAN, Okla. – Auburn men's golf sophomore J.M. Butler was selected as a PING All-American, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced Tuesday.
"I am very proud to be named a part of an incredible group of All-Americans," Butler said. "It would not be possible without the support from my parents, coaches, teammates and friends. Auburn has given me the tools I need in order to grow my game. With that being said, the team and I will never be satisfied and are looking to bring even more accolades back to The Plains next season."
Butler is a second team honoree and becomes the 33rd All-American in program history as well as the 13th under head coach Nick Clinard. The selection marks the first of his career.
"This honor comes as no surprise to myself as J.M. is one of the hardest workers I have ever coached," Clinard said. "He has the drive and the talent to be one of the best golfers this program has ever seen. I am pleased to see him rewarded for his efforts this season and ever more excited to watch him build upon this even further as his career progresses."
Butler kickstarted the season with an individual championship at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate, shooting 17-under 197 to smash the Auburn record for low 54-hole score.
Additionally, Butler led the team with top finishes in six of its yearly tournaments. His 70.56 scoring average ranks as the second-best in Auburn single-season history and was No. 12 in the Southeastern Conference this year.
The Louisville, Kentucky native also led the team in nearly every other statistical category throughout the season, including rounds below par (19), round in the 60s (14), birdies (140), and top-20 finishes (9).
Butler and the Tigers will return to action this fall after concluding the 2022 season with a top-10 finish at the NCAA Championship.
