He is a pivotal figure in Auburn University history. Pat Dye served as athletic director during much of his tenure. The Tigers snapped a nine-year losing streak to Alabama, won four SEC championships and brought the Iron Bowl to Jordan-Hare Stadium. These are just a few of the accomplishments of Patrick Fain Dye.
Born to a farming family, Dye became an All-American lineman at Georgia. His first coaching job was with Bear Bryant at Alabama. After head coaching stints at East Carolina and Wyoming, Dye came to Auburn and the rest is history.
Jimmy Rane with Great Southern Wood and a member of the Auburn University Board of Trustees was instrumental in a documentary titled "Mighty: The Life and Legacy of Pat Dye." Slats Slaton was selected as the director of the documentary. It debuted in front of a packed house at the Gogue Performing Arts Center on Sept. 2.
