In the fall of 1947, Auburn announced the creation of its men's golf program. Throughout the 2022-23 season, we are remembering and honoring the milestone moments and outstanding alumni that make up the illustrious 75-year history of the program.

A native of Johnson City, Tennessee, Chip Spratlin is a 2022 inductee into the Tiger Walk Hall of Fame and was the first Auburn golfer to win a national title after capturing the 1995 NCAA individual crown.

Q: Why did you choose to continue your golf career at Auburn?
Spratlin: My family had a history with the school, and I was always just an Auburn fan.

Q: What did you take away from your experiences on the Auburn golf team?
Spratlin: Strong competition and the challenge of good courses on a daily basis was the key to improvement for me.

Q: What is your favorite memory from your time on The Plains?
Spratlin: I have two. Getting my national championship ring on the field right before the kickoff of the Iron Bowl, and the first time I qualified for the Hawaii tournament.

Q: What degree did you earn from Auburn and what do you do now?
Spratlin: I got my B.S. in agricultural economics. Now, I'm a corporate pilot in a Lear 75 for General Shale Brick.

Q: How would you describe your college experience in a single word?
Spratlin: Rewarding.

Q: Do you still play golf? In what fashion?
Spratlin: Yes, a little bit. I will occasionally play some friendly competition here and there.

Q: What advice would you give to current and future members of the Auburn golf team?
Spratlin: Work hard and enjoy this time because these days will always be some of the most memorable of your life.
