Auburn finishes 10th, Schofill and Foster each with top 20 individual finishes at ANNIKA Intercollegiate

AUBURN, Ala. - The first tournament of the 2022-23 campaign has come to a close for the Auburn women's golf program at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate in Lake Elmo, Minn. on Wednesday. Auburn senior Megan Schofill and junior Anna Foster each captured top 20 finishes individually for the tournament. 

After a disappointing first round of 303 (+15), the Tigers bounced back in the second and third rounds posting 2-over par as a team in both rounds (290). Auburn's three round total of 883 (+19) resulted in a 10th place finish, which was 25 strokes behind champion Wake Forest and nine shots clear of rival Alabama.

"I'm proud of the girls for fighting hard today," head coach Melissa Luellen said following Wednesday's round. "Hole locations were tough so I am pleased with having the fifth best team score of the day."

Schofill had the best three day finish for the Tigers individually, as today's round of a 3-over 76 led to a three day total of 218 (+2), which placed her in a tie for 17th.

Foster and junior Elina Sinz both fired a 1-under 71 in round three on Wednesday. Foster's three day total of 219 (+3) put her in a tie for 19th individually while Sinz finished at 12-over for the tournament (228).

"Elina [Sinz] and Anna [Foster] both had rough starts to the tournament but turned around and played beautiful golf today," Coach Luellen said about the pair of juniors. "The first day really hurt but they showed a lot of grit today to post a solid round."

Casey Weidenfeld finished the day at even par (72) and finished the tournament at 5-over (221) for a tie for 29th place individually.

Next on the schedule for the Tigers will be the Mason Rudolph Championship on the Vanderbilt Legends course in Franklin, Tenn. The tournament will be September 23-25 and live scoring will be available on Golfstat.com and on the GolfStat mobile app.
