Alumni Spotlight: Niclas CarlssonAlumni Spotlight: Niclas Carlsson

In the fall of 1947, Auburn announced the creation of its men's golf program. Throughout the 2022-23 season, we are remembering and honoring the milestone moments and outstanding alumni that make up the illustrious 75-year history of the program.

A native of Enebyberg, Sweden, Niclas Carlsson lifted the standard both on the course and in the classroom as one of the first golfers of the Nick Clinard era.

Q: Why did you choose to continue your golf career on The Plains?
Carlsson: I was sold on the great facilities, the respectable program and the dedication of coach Clinard.

Q: What is your favorite memory from your time at Auburn?
Carlsson: My win at the Jerry Pate invitational. It was my second tournament played for Auburn and it was a team victory.

Q: What would you consider the biggest accomplishment from your collegiate career?
Carlsson: My four individual titles and my GPA.

Q: How would you describe your college experience in a single word?
Carlsson: Memorable.

Q: What advice would you give to current and future members of the Auburn golf program?
Carlsson: Enjoy the heck out of your time on The Plains. It's unreal when you think about it — playing golf with 10 friends, flying around in a private jet, unlimited support and opportunities. Take a step back and appreciate it while you have it.

Q: Do you still play golf? In what fashion?
Carlsson: Yes, I play around 10 rounds per year with friends and family.

Q: What did you take away from your experiences on the Auburn golf team?
Carlsson: The brotherhood within the team and memories to last a lifetime.
