AUBURN, Ala. – Coming off a record setting meet, the Auburn cross country team returns to action Saturday making the trip to Louisville, Ky. to compete in the Live in Lou Cross Country Classic. The tigers will be racing for the first time since each runner posted a personal best two weeks ago at the North Alabama Showcase.
The event will be held at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park with the men's 8k gold race beginning at 8:30 a.m. CT and the women's 5k gold race at 9:15 a.m. CT.
"I thought we came off of our showcase meet with a lot of energy," said Coach Aaron Kindt. "They did a great job these last ten days getting back to work and back to the grind so really looking forward to this weekend."
A total of 35 universities will be represented in the men's gold race and 44 universities in the women's gold race.
Running for the Auburn women will be seniors Hannah Tarwater and Sara Pacer, junior Samantha Rogers, sophomores Hallie Porterfield and Hannah Thuss, and freshman Gene Coetzee, Kali Holden, and Haley Marston.
Coetzee led the way for the Tigers in the women's 5k race in a personal-best of 16:42.76 in her collegiate debut two weeks ago in Huntsville, Ala.
Running for the Auburn men will be juniors Carson Bedics, Ryan Kinnane, and Dustyn Lewis, sophomores Cooper Atkins, Benson Atkins, Mark Foster, and Louis O'Loughlin, and freshman Isaiah Billingsley, Joseph Perry, and Ethan Snyder.
Kinnane led the way for the Tigers at the previous meet with a personal-best 23:58.82 in the men's 8k.
In addition to the rest of the field, the Tigers will toe the line with SEC rivals Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina and Tennessee.
"I know it has always been a historically a fast course depending on the weather and there might be a hill or two in there but for the most part sounds like a racetrack," said Kindt. "Living here in Auburn we run hills each and every day whether we want to or not so going somewhere flat will be a nice change up."
