AUBURN, Ala. – After opening the fall exhibition season with a pair of shutout victories, Auburn softball returns to diamond Sunday, trekking to Hanceville, Alabama, for a pair of games on the campus of Wallace State.
"Playing doubleheaders give everyone an opportunity to figure out where their bodies are physically and mentally and what more they need to work on as we head toward the spring," said head coach Mickey Dean.
Auburn opens the doubleheader against Wallace State, one of the top junior college programs in the state of Alabama, at 12 p.m. CT. The Lions are coming off their 14th Alabama Community College Conference tournament championship and advanced to the quarterfinals at the 2022 National Junior College Athletic Association Division I National Championship.
The doubleheader concludes at 2 p.m. CT when the Tigers face Chipola College.
Last weekend in Birmingham, Alabama, Auburn's pitching staff shined in a doubleheader against Pensacola State and UAB. Tiger pitchers allowed zero runs and just four hits in 14.0 innings. The quartet combined for 21 strikeouts with junior Maddie Penta leading the way with nine.
Making the most plate appearances in last week's doubleheader, junior Annabelle Widra went 3-for-4 at the plate with three doubles, one RBI and one run scored. Widra drew a pair of walks en route to a .833 on-base percentage coupled with her 1.500 slugging mark. Widra also saw time in the circle, tossing three hitless innings of relief while striking out four.
Senior Lindsey Garcia turned in a 3-for-3 appearance against UAB, picking up and RBI and a stolen base. Sophomore Icess Tresvik picked up a pair of RBI last Saturday with help of a solo home run against the Blazers.
This weekend's doubleheader will not be streamed, but fans can stay updated through the Auburn softball Twitter account: @AuburnSoftball.
