In the fall of 1947, Auburn announced the creation of its men's golf program. Throughout the 2022-23 season, we are remembering and honoring the milestone moments and outstanding alumni that make up the illustrious 75-year history of the program.
A native of Rochester, Indiana, Todd Smith was not only a two-time All-SEC performer but also capped his career by helping the Tigers to a top-five finish at SECs and a top-20 finish at the NCAA Championship.
Q: Why did you choose to continue your golf career on The Plains?
Smith: I fell in love with Auburn the minute I got to campus. I felt so welcome, and I knew it was a perfect fit for me.
Q: What degree did you earn from Auburn and what are you up to now?
Smith: I earned my bachelor of science in business administration. I am a PGA member and work for the PGA of America.
Q: How would you describe your college experience in a single word?
Smith: Perfect.
Q: What advice would you give to current and future members of the Auburn golf team?
Smith: Take the time to enjoy everything Auburn has to offer. Enjoy the friendships, especially!
Q: What is your favorite memory from your time at Auburn?
Smith: Competing in the NCAA finals in 1985 and all the incredible football and basketball games I attended.
Q: What would you consider your biggest accomplishment during your time in college?
Smith: Being named All-SEC in 1982 and again in 1985.
Q: Do you still play golf? In what fashion?
Smith: Yes, PGA Section and national events. I also coach and teach.
Q: Is there anything else you'd like to add regarding your time with Auburn golf?
Smith: I am very appreciative of everything Auburn did for me. It was an incredible experience.
