Newcomer Spotlight: Skylar Elkins

As Auburn softball continues to roll through the fall season, a group of fresh faces are poised to make and instant impact and continue to take the program to the next level. Throughout the fall, we'll introduce the new members of Auburn softball as they prepare to put the Southeastern Conference and country on notice. Our newcomer spotlight beings with Skylar Elkins, a catcher and utility player hailing from Locust Grove, Georgia.
 
Q: Who has influenced your softball career the most?
Elkins: My parents.
 
Q: What advice would you give to younger athletes that want to play at the next level?
Elkins: Always lead, never follow.
 
Q: What is your favorite homecooked meal?
Elkins: Steak with shrimp and asparagus.
 
Q: What uniform combo are you most looking forward to wearing?
Elkins: All whites.
 
Q: What makes Auburn softball special?
Elkins: The atmosphere. Everything here feels like home.

Q: If Auburn softball could play in a tournament anywhere in the world, where would you'd like to go?
Elkins: Hawaii. Love to be at the beach.
 
Q: What has been the highlight of your career thus far?
Elkins: Winning back-to-back state championships in high school while also being named Player of the Year twice.
 
Q: How is Auburn different from your hometown?
Elkins: Not much. The reason I like it here is because it feels like home.
 
Q: What academic or athletics goals for you have for this season?
Elkins: Making it to the Women's College World Series and winning a championship.
 
Q: What is your favorite holiday?
Elkins: The Fourth of July.
 
Q: If you could have any animal as a pet, what would you pick?
Elkins: A monkey. It's something different and cool.
 
Q: What makes the coaching staff at Auburn different from other coaches you've had in your career?
Elkins: They bring a relentlessness and drive to be better every day.
 
Q: Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?
Elkins: I eat a few dill pickle sunflower seeds and drink a Sprite before every game.
 
Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Elkins: I would want super speed. I would never have to think about not making another 300 in 60 seconds ever again.
 
Q: What jersey number are you wearing this season?
Elkins: I am wearing No. 15. I wore that number throughout my high school career. I set multiple records for my high school as well as the state. I'm looking to keep that tradition rolling.
 
Q: What is your major? What do you plan to do with your degree?
Elkins: I am majoring in aviation. Following graduation, I plan to become an international private pilot.
 
Q: What type of music gets your hyped before a game?
Elkins: Anything on Denver Bryant's playlist.
 
Q: What is one word you'd use to describe yourself on the field?
Elkins: Determined.
 
Q: What is your favorite dessert?
Elkins: Strawberry crêpe.
 
Q: If you could give a message to the Auburn Family, what would it be?
Elkins: Grab some popcorn, sit back and relax. This season is going to be a wild ride!
