Auburn women finish runner-up at the Crimson Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Gene Coetzee, Samantha Rogers, and Hallie Porterfield led the Auburn women to a strong finish Friday at the Crimson Classic at Harry Pritchett Running Park. Ryan Kinnane continued to lead the men in Tuscaloosa, Ala. with a solid performance in the final race of the regular season.
 
Of the 19 teams that competed in the women's 6k race, Auburn finished runner-up. While out of 16 teams in the men's 8k race, the Tigers combined for 5th place overall.
 
"Great overall team performances on both sides," said Coach Aaron Kindt. "I thought that was our most complete effort running as a team this year."
 
On the women's side, the Tigers has 3 top-15 finishes. Coetzee and Rogers led the way crossing the line in 20:31.5 and 20:32.8. Close behind was Porterfield (20:37.4), Hannah Tarwater (21:10.0), and Sara Pacer (21:31.6).
 
"The women were tremendous again," said Kindt. "Gené, Hallie, Samantha did a fantastic job racing at the front with all three of those women continuing to stack great performances."
 
On the men's side, Kinnane continues to lead the Tigers finishing 6th individually with a time of 23:42.7. Not far behind the sophomore speedster was fellow sophomores Carson Bedics (24:40.0) and Louis O'Loughlin (24:50.5), and freshman Isaiah Billingsley (25:10.1).
 
"Ryan Kinnane continues to grow each week, going toe-toe with some of the best runners in the country," Kindt said. "And Carson Bedics continues to be a quiet stable contributor for this young group."
 
With the conclusion of the regular season, the Tigers set their sights on the conference and regional meets. Auburn will be back in action at the SEC Cross Country Championship on Friday, October 28th in Oxford, Ala. at FNC Park.
