BATON ROUGE, La. – Auburn's Adeline Flach and Kaitlyn Carnicella both earned singles victories during the first day of the main draw in ITA Southern Regionals in Baton Rouge, La. on Friday.
 
Flach defeated Anastassia Kouchnareva from New Orleans 7-5, 6-2. Carnicella took down South Alabama's Tereza Dejnozkova 6-0, 5-7, 6-2. Auburn junior Anastasia Astakhova fell to Anastasiya Komar 6-1, 6-1 from LSU.

The Auburn doubles team of Flach and Carnicella also recorded a win over Sydney Orefice and Rebeka Kern from Alabama 8-4.

"Nerves are such a special part of competing," Auburn associate head coach Megan Falcon said after play concluded on Friday. "Working through nerves and using that energy in a productive way is an important part of the developmental process. Our tennis will continue to improve as we recognize it is our thoughts that drive our actions."
 
On Saturday, the main draw's round of 32 will begin. Flach will take on conference foe Ole Miss' Rachel Krzyak while Carnicella will play Anna Parkhomenko from rival Alabama. Flach and Carnicella will play Krzyzak and Lillian Gabrielsen from Ole Miss.
