BATON ROUGE, La. - The Auburn doubles team of Adeline Flach and Kaitlyn Carnicella advanced the quarterfinals in the doubles main draw of the ITA Southern Regionals in Baton Rouge on Saturday. Carnicella also claimed two singles victories in the singles main draw to punch her ticket to the singles draw quarterfinals.
Flach and Carnicella defeated Rachel Krzak and Lillian Gabrielsen from Ole Miss 8-7 (4) to make the quarterfinal match. Carnicella defeated Alabama's Anna Parkhomenko 7-6 (8) then Gia Cohen from Mississippi State 6-4, 5-7, 1-6. Flach fell in her singles match to LSU's Maggie Cubitt 7-5, 7-6 (11).
"I am really proud of the way the girls competed today. They showed a lot of grit and fortitude in tough moments," said Auburn associate head coach Megan Falcon. "Tomorrow is a new day with more opportunities to challenge ourselves."
Carnicella will face Lillian Gabrielsen from Ole Miss, who she defeated on Saturday in doubles play, on Sunday in singles. In doubles play, Flach and Carnicella will play Maggie Cubitt and Mia Rabinowitz from LSU.
