They came to Auburn in different manners. Thom came to Auburn to play football, first as a walk-on, then on scholarship. He became the first African-American football player to graduate on the Plains. Mike came to Auburn to study Economics. They even took a class together at Haley Center.
Following their years at Auburn, Thomas Gossom Jr. and Michael O'Neill became noted actors. Neither had acted until they left college. Thomas acted in Fight Club and on the TV series, In the Heat of the Night with Carol O'Conner. Michael was featured in Seabiscuit among other big screen blockbusters and on The West Wing with Martin Sheen.
