In the fall of 1947, Auburn announced the creation of its men's golf program. Throughout the 2022-23 season, we are remembering and honoring the milestone moments and outstanding alumni that make up the illustrious 75-year history of the program.

A native of Florence, Alabama, David Zickler spent five seasons with the Auburn golf program and now works in Nashville, Tennessee as an investment banker.

Q: Why did you choose to continue your golf career on The Plains?
Zickler: I chose Auburn over Ole Miss and Georgia because of the facilities, teammates and my familiarity with the school since my older brother went to Auburn as well.

Q: What is your favorite memory from your time at Auburn?
Zickler: Too many to count, but one simple memory is all the late afternoon putting and chipping contests.

Q: What did you take away from your experiences on the Auburn golf team?
Zickler: Competing against other schools and my own teammates helped me grow considerably as person. Learning how to win and lose graciously and the importance of preparation was vital in achieving my goals.

Q: What degree did you earn from Auburn and what are you up to now?
Zickler: I got a finance degree. I'm now in my 10th year as an investment banker in Nashville.

Q: How would you describe your college experience in a single word?
Zickler: Fun!

Q: What would you consider your biggest accomplishment during your time at Auburn?
Zickler: Being a small contribution to a team that won many tournaments and truly took the program to a higher level in my five years there.

Q: Do you still play golf? In what fashion?
Zickler: Yes, I'm a member at Brentwood Country Club and still play a few mid-am events each year.

Q: Other than playing, are you still involved with the game of golf?
Zickler: I'm in the early stages of starting an elite mid-am event in Nashville.

Q: What advice would you give to current and future members of the Auburn golf team?
Zickler: Pick two, three at most, things you want to be great at during your time at Auburn (golf, school, friendship, spiritual life, etc.) and don't waste time on activities that aren't helpful achieving your goals in those areas.

Q: Is there anything else you'd like to add regarding your time with the program?
Zickler: I wish I could do it all again!
