AUBURN, Ala. — With conference tournament implications on the table, Auburn soccer will close out its regular season road contests with a matchup against LSU Sunday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m.
The Tigers currently sit 12th in the SEC standings and will need a push to at least 10th to keep their SEC Tournament hopes alive.
"We control our own destiny at this point," Tigers head coach Karen Hoppa. "We don't need to worry about what other teams are doing. We just need to worry about what we do on the field.
"LSU is a very good, veteran team. Some of their best players are seniors. They've got a dynamic attack and Sian Hudson, their new head coach, has just done a fantastic job with them over these last couple of years."
Auburn heads into Baton Rouge with a 2-5-1 record in conference play. LSU sits at 3-2-3 after a pair of scoreless draws versus its previous two opponents, No. 9 Arkansas and No. 16 Tennessee.
With a 20-8-4 record in the all-time series, it is Hoppa's Tigers who hold the advantage. Auburn is 7-5-1 when playing in Baton Rouge and has not lost to LSU since the 2010 season.
Defense has been the name of the game for Auburn not only this season, but against LSU in general. With 296 career minutes in the net versus the Purple & Gold attack, junior goalkeeper Maddie Prohaska has yet to surrender a goal, making nine saves on nine shots faced. As a team, the Tigers have shutout LSU in the last six meetings and have allowed just three goals since the 2013 season.
In last year's 1-0 victory, Auburn found the game-winner from Marissa Arias on an assist from Alyssa Malonson in the 93rd minute.
