Tigers finish stroke play at East Lake Cup, will face Oregon in match play

ATLANTA, Ga. – Auburn finished the stroke play portion of the East Lake Cup on Monday. Auburn finished the tournament at 6-over (294) as a team and has drawn a match with Oregon on Tuesday.
 
"It would've been nice to win the stroke play portion today, however we know that it doesn't really matter in the end," Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said after the round. "Tomorrow, we get to take on the Oregon Ducks and we look forward to it. We're going to figure out our strategy for the matches since our players aren't very familiar with their players. It only takes 3 points to win a match!"
 
Junior Elina Sinz led the way for the Tigers with an even par 72 that placed her in a tie for second place individually. Sinz fired a 2-under 34 on the back nine to finish her round.
 
"I played pretty well overall today and was proud of the way I came back and finished strong on the back nine," Sinz said. "I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's match against Oregon and showing off what we can do as a team in match play."
 
Senior Megan Schofill, junior Anna Foster and redshirt freshman Casey Weidenfeld all fired a 74 (+2) in Monday's round. Schofill and Weidenfeld's rounds both featured four birdies on their cards.
 
On Tuesday, Auburn will face off in match play against Oregon beginning at 11:45 a.m. CT. Schofill will face Brittany Shin, Gourley will square up against Briana Chacon, Sinz will play Ashleigh Park, Foster will face Ching-Tzu Chen, and Weidenfeld will play Hsin-Yu Lu.
 
Tuesday's round will again be nationally televised on Golf Channel from 2-5 p.m. CT and live scoring will be on Golfstat.com and the GolfStat mobile app.
