Bayamon, Puerto Rico – Auburn has completed the first day of play at the Puerto Rico Hidden Duels in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.
The Tigers battled representatives from Michigan in singles play on Friday. Freshman Kaitlyn Carnicella defeated Nicole Hammond 6-4, 7-5. Junior Anastasia Astakhova fell to Bayley Sheinin 7-5, 6-7 (5), 10-12 and junior Adeline Flach was defeated by Andrea Cerdan 6-4, 6-3.
Auburn also played singles matches against Florida State. Astakhova fell to Kianah Montosono 6-4, 6-4. Flach lost to Olympe Lancelot 6-3, 6-2 and Carnicella fell to Mila Saric 5-7, 6-2.
"Execution is developed on the practice court. We earned a lot of windows today. Did we capitalize on those windows of opportunity like we would have liked? Of course not. But that's sport, that's tennis," Auburn associate head coach Megan Falcon said after play ended on Friday. "Competing is a byproduct of consistency when people aren't watching, when the spotlight isn't on. We will be better tomorrow because of days like today."
