MEDINAH, Ill. – The Auburn women's golf team has completed the over 750-mile journey to Medinah, Ill. to compete in the Illini Women's Invitational at the prestigious Medinah Country Club beginning on Monday.
The Tigers will attempt to keep their momentum going after a top-five team finish and an individual tournament victory for senior Megan Schofill at their last tournament, the Mason Rudolph Invitational in Nashville, Tenn.
"Obviously the team goal is to come away with a win this time," said junior Anna Foster. "We had a good week in Nashville and set some higher goals after the tournament was over."
The field for the event features eight top 50 teams according to Thursday's Golfweek rankings including Purdue, Oklahoma, San Jose State, Tennessee, TCU, Texas Tech, rival Georgia as well as top 10 Oklahoma State.
"I think individually I definitely need to get off to a hot start because I've been able to play well once I have settled into tournaments," said Foster, who posted back-to-back rounds under par at the Mason Rudolph Championship.
The Illini Women's Invitational will be played at historic Medinah Country Club. The course opened in the early 1920s and has played host to three U.S. Opens, two PGA Championships, the 2012 Ryder Cup and the 2019 BMW Championship.
"It's really cool to be able to tell people that I'm going to play Medinah," said Foster. "I got to watch the Ryder Cup at Medinah in 2012 and now we're getting to play there!"
The first two rounds will be played on Monday while the final round of the 54-hole event will be played on Tuesday. Round one will be a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Monday.
The players chosen to be in the Tigers' team lineup remains unchanged, although the order has been shuffled. Freshman Sophie Anand is set to make her collegiate debut in the event, as she made the travel roster to participate as an individual.
