AUBURN, Ala. – Seniors Ava Stearns and Maddie Spak of the No. 3 Auburn equestrian team were awarded Southeastern Conference Rider of the Month honors for November, the league released Thursday.
Stearns was named the SEC Fences Rider of the Month, while Spak picked up Co-Horsemanship Rider of the Month. Stearns was also awarded the NCEA November Fences ROTM.
Stearns put together a 3-0-0 record in Fences with two Most Outstanding Performer honors for the Tigers, helping the squad take three wins overall. That included two wins over Southeastern Conference opponents.
The Chilmark, Massachusetts product started off with an 89-79 victory at nationally ranked South Carolina (Nov. 4) for MOP. She followed with back-to-back 86-84 wins in the event with the first over Texas A&M (Nov. 11). She capped the fall season with another 86-84 win, securing MOP against defending national champion Oklahoma State. Her performance guided the Tigers to a sweep of the Cowgirls in Fences.
For Spak, she picks up the SEC award for the second-straight month. The Waukesha, Wisconsin native improved to 7-0-0 on the season with three wins in November.
She started the month with a 75.5-73 victory at South Carolina, helping the Tigers sweep the Gamecocks in the event. Spak followed with a 74.5-73.5 win vs. the Aggies at home and capped the month with a 73.5-72.5 win over Oklahoma State.
