Alumni Spotlight: Liana Wuchte

Alumni Spotlight: Liana WuchteAlumni Spotlight: Liana Wuchte

In 1997, Auburn softball competed in its inaugural season. Throughout the 2022 campaign, we are celebrating the many faces, moments and victories that have shaped our program over the last 25 years.

As part of our 25 Years of Auburn Softball celebration, we're checking in with alumni from every era of the program to share their memories of being a Tiger.

A four-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member, Liana Wuchte (2010-13) has gone one to earn her PhD in biomedical engineering. She has brought the work ethic drive she developed while a student-athlete at Auburn to the next stage of her life.

Q: Why did you decide to continue your softball career at Auburn?
Wuchte: I fell in love with Auburn and the Auburn culture at a camp I attend as a high school player. It was my dream school from that point on!

Q: What is your favorite on-field memory?
Wuchte: Singing the fight song to the crowd after beating Alabama at Alabama … nothing sweeter.

Q: What do you consider your biggest accomplishment during your collegiate career – on or off the field?
Wuchte: I cannot think of particular moment, I just look back and am proud of my consistency and finishing everything in four years. Walking across the stage for a diploma as well as being a four-year SEC athlete at Auburn. I will always be proud of that.

Q: What is one of your favorite memories with a teammate?
Wuchte: Probably my epic failure of a conditioning test - my sophomore year, I believe? I hated it at the time, but it is one of the funniest memories when I look back on it now. "C'mon legs!"

Q: Looking back at your career, what is one word you'd use to describe it?
Wuchte: Fulfilling. It is still so humbling to think back of these years and how as a little girl I dreamed of being a college athlete. I was able to wear the Auburn uniform and compete as an SEC athlete for four years. It was the fulfillment of a childhood dream.

Q: Who influenced your softball career the most?
Wuchte: Coach Deese. She gave me the opportunity to be an Auburn Tigers, and I'll always be thankful for that.

Q: What was your favorite uniform combo?
Wuchte: Blues with the white socks!

Q: Why advice would you give to current/future Auburn softball student-athletes?
Wuchte: In the end, this is more than just chasing wins and rings. Don't miss it. Take notice and soak in the memories, experiences and relationships you form in these years. You should be working hard and should be exhausted if you're doing it right. Even through it's a grind, it's fast. Don't miss it. Don't miss what God has for you in this unique time.

Q: If you can give a message to the Auburn Family, what would it be?
Wuchte: I'm thankful for the Auburn family and being able to always call Auburn "home."

Q: What degree did you earn? What is your current career path?
Wuchte: Biosystems engineering. I went on to get my PhD in biomedical engineering and am an application development engineer at a chemical company in Pennsylvania.
