AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn men's golf team will compete in its eighth and final regular season tournament of the year Monday and Tuesday at the Mossy Oak Collegiate Championship in West Point, Mississippi.
Auburn will travel a lineup of five players to compete this week. Sophomore J.M. Butler will lead off as the only Tiger to go a perfect 8-for-8 in team appearances this season and a perfect 16-for-16 in his career.
The Louisville, Kentucky product leads the team and ranks top-10 in the SEC with a 70.29 strokes per round average. Additionally, Butler has turned in six top-15 outings in seven masterful tournaments of work.
Behind Butler will be junior Alex Vogelsong and freshman Evan Vo. Vogelsong continues to play with a hot hand as he has finished below par in each of his last three tournaments, continually shooting lower from one event to the next.
Vo looks to build upon a near-win at General Hackler Championship just a few weeks ago. The Austin, Texas native carded an 8-under-par 64 in his final round to tie the Dunes Golf Club course record for 18 holes. He also ranks inside the league's top-five for freshman scoring average with a 71.78 strokes per round clip.
The fourth man up in the Tiger lineup will be junior C.J. Easley. Easley returns to his home state with a trio of top-25 outings already under his belt this season. The golfer from Oxford, Mississippi has cut one whole stroke off his average from the previous year, shooting at a 72.33 mark through 18 rounds of play thus far.
Manning the five hole at Mossy Oak Golf Club will be sophomore Carson Bacha. Like Vogelsong, Bacha has also heated up as of late, shooting below par in his previous two outings and finishing inside the top-15 of two of three.
The Auburn fivesome will play 36 holes on Monday with a shotgun start set for 8 a.m. CT before playing the final 18 on Tuesday.
To come out on top for the third time this spring, the Tigers will need to outplay host Mississippi State, Arkansas State, Chattanooga, No. 19 Florida State, Kansas State, Lipscomb, Louisiana, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana Tech, No. 21 LSU, Memphis, Michigan, Middle Tennessee, No. 24 Ole Mis, South Alabama, Southern Miss, UAB and No. 5 Vanderbilt.
