In the fall of 1947, Auburn announced the creation of its men's golf program. Throughout the 2022-23 season, we are remembering and honoring the milestone moments and outstanding alumni that make up the illustrious 75-year history of the program.
A member of the program from 1989-93, Joey Davis led the team to one of its first ever regional titles with a team victory at the 1990 NCAA East Regional in Savannah, Georgia. Davis and company would later go on to notch a top-25 finish at the NCAA Championship at Innisbrook Resort in Tarpon Springs, Florida.
Q: Why did you choose to continue your career on The Plains?
Davis. I knew it was a great program.
Q: What did you take away from your experiences on the team?
Davis: Invaluable leadership skills, working with a team and discipline.
Q: How would you describe your college experience in a single word?
Davis. Incredible.
Q: What advice would you give to current and future members of the Auburn golf team?
Davis: I dream about having one year of eligibility left and getting to play again. It goes so fast. Enjoy every second — the good and the bad. It will make you a better person. You'll leave and no one can take away that you were an SEC student-athlete.
Q: What degree did you earn from Auburn and what are you up to now?
Davis: Business. I'm the President of Jacuzzi. My team is over 1,000 people and we've had some great success the nine years I've been in the role. I learned how to compete and thrive through my time at Auburn and playing on the team. It is totally transferable to the business world. Iron sharpens iron.
Q: What is your favorite memory from your time on the team?
Davis: Winning 1990 NCAA East Regional and shooting 69 in the final round.
Q: Are you still involved with the game of golf?
Davis: Yes, still compete at the amateur level... +1.7. I'm fortunate to have played in two US Amateurs, two Mid-Amateurs and the British Mid-Amateur.
Q: Is there anything else you'd like to add regarding your time with Auburn golf?
Davis: In the business world, it's huge. To say that you played golf in the SEC is a big deal. Countless times has it has helped my career after golf.
