AUBURN, Ala. – Following an impressive performance at last week's Clemson Invite, Auburn freshman Arianna Sharpe was named the Southeastern Conference Women's Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
In her collegiate debut, Sharpe clocked a blistering 53.01 in the women's 400m dash to win the event. The Clayton, N.J. native not only took the top spot at the meet but also clocked the fastest time in the country. Just six one hundredths of a second off of Joanna Atkins' freshman record (52.95) set in 2008, Sharpe became the No.3 all-time performer in AU history behind Atkins (52.24) and Markita James (52.56).
Sharpe and the Tigers' track and field team will be back in action this weekend at the Vanderbilt Invite on the Vanderbilt University campus.
