Throws and sprints set tone for day 2 of Texas Tech Open & Multis

LUBBOCK, Texas – Auburn track and field closed out day two of the Texas Tech Open & Multis meet collecting 11 new personal bests and four individuals joined the school's all-time performers list.
 
On the final day of the men's heptathlon, senior Alex Spyridonidis finished third with 5867 points. Spyridonidis capped off his performance finishing second in the pole vault with a new personal-best mark of 5.10m/16-8.75. 
 
In the men's 60m dash, freshman Ian Myers ran the fastest qualifying time of 6.69 for a new personal best. He went on to improve his time in the semi-final running 6.67 to finish seventh for a qualifying bid to the finals. Fellow freshman Azeem Fahmi ran PR times in the first two rounds clocking 6.72 and 6.63 for automatic qualifying spots. Fahmi went on to finish second in the final crossing the line in 6.65. Rounding out the sprinting trio was sophomore Favour Ashe. Ashe ran 6.55 to move up to the No. 3 all-time performer in Auburn history finishing second in the semi-final. 
 
In the field, solid performances came by way of senior Erik Ebel and juniors Kyle Brown and Kyle Moison in the men's weight throw. Brown threw 20.94m/68-8.50 to finish third while Ebel (20.19m/66-3) and Moison (20.16m/66-1.75) were sixth and seventh place, respectfully. With his new personal-best mark, Moison became No. 5 all-time performer in AU history.
 
On the women side, senior Madi Malone and junior Maura Huwalt took first and second in the women's weight throw. Malone took the top spot on her final chance, with a heave of 22.69m/74-5.50. Malone currently ranks No. 2 in the SEC and No. 6 in the country. Huwalt took silver with a new personal-best throw of 21.09m/69-2.50, moving into third on the Tigers all-time performers list.
 
Other notable performances came by way of freshman Arianna Sharpe as she equaled her collegiate best of 53.01 in the 400m dash finishing second. Taking the top qualifying spot and setting a new personal best was freshman, Chante Clinkscale (7.32) in the women's 60m dash.  

In the women's long jump junior Janaya Jones set a new personal-best of 6.21m/20-4.50 to become the No. 7 all-time performer in Auburn history. Junior Lexie Leinneweber won the women's pole vault section B with a vault of 3.88m/12-8.75. 
 
The third and final day of action from the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center begins Saturday at 10 a.m. CT with the women's shot put.
