AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn's Kharyssa Richardson has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week for women's basketball, the conference office announced Tuesday morning.
Richardson, a 6-2 forward from Douglasville, Ga., had an incredible night in the Tigers' win over Florida Monday night with 15 points and 16 rebounds, both career highs and her first collegiate double-double to lead Auburn to their third straight SEC victory. Along with a 7-point, 5-rebound performance in Thursday's win at Kentucky, Richardson averaged 11.0 points and 10.5 rebounds for the week.
Her 15-point, 16-rebound night was the first 15-15 effort from an Auburn player since Unique Thompson did it several times during the 2020-21 season. However, Richardson is the first Auburn freshman to accomplish that feat since Lauretta Freeman had 16 points and 20 rebounds on Jan. 27, 1990, vs. Tuskegee.
This is the first weekly honor of Richardson's career and the second of the season for Auburn; Sydney Shaw earned Freshman of the Week honors following the end of non-conference play.
After a Thursday off, the Tigers will be back in action Sunday, Feb. 5, to take on Arkansas at home. Tip is set for 2 p.m. CT at Neville Arena.
