INDIO, Calif. – Auburn men's golf freshman Reed Lotter pieced together yet another impressive outing Tuesday as he carded a 4-under 68 to expand his lead to four strokes at The Prestige.
Through the first 36 holes of his collegiate career, Lotter has matched just three bogeys with 12 birdies for a two-day total of 135 (-9). His second round began with an even 36 on the front nine, however, below-par performances on holes 10, 12, 14 and 17 would see the Savannah, Georgia native match the course's low round of the day.
"Today was another really solid ball striking day," Lotter said. "I felt like I stayed very patient on the front when I couldn't get a putt to fall. Then, they started falling on the back, which was nice to see. Going into tomorrow with the same game plan as I try and close this one out. It's been a fun week and I hope to end it with a bang."
Also having a career day on the links was senior Hal Dove, who carded a career-low 72 (E) to surge 12 spots up the tournament leaderboard to a tie for 26th place. Dove's even par day was credited to birdies on 4, 7 and 10 to erase bogeys on 2, 12 and 13.
Senior Austin Coggin signed for a 73 (+1) in his middle round to hold strong inside the top 15. Heading into Wednesday's finale, Coggin eyes what would be the sixth top-20 placement of his last eight outings, dating back to last season.
To conclude the tournament, Auburn's contingent will be paired with Baylor and Kansas once more, teeing off from 9:30 a.m. to 9:52 a.m. CT.
"Everyone knows that it's not about how you start, it's about how you finish," Tigers assistant coach Chris Williams said. "Tomorrow will be about playing smart and playing loose. I don't want any of the guys to feel pressure based on how they played these past two days. Let go of the mistakes and don't expect the same successes. It's a new day and a new 18."
