MELBOURNE, Fla. – Auburn women's golf has finished fourth at the Moon Golf Invitational after posting a final round 2-over 290 on Tuesday. The Tigers finished with a 54-hole total of 849 (-15), which gives them the second top-five finish in as many tournaments in 2023.
"Solid finish in a strong field," Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said after the final round concluded. "Not the day we wanted, but I know everyone has learned a lot about their games in the last two tournaments. We felt right at home with several Auburn fans making the effort to come out and support their Tigers, which was very appreciated!"
Redshirt freshman Casey Weidenfeld recorded the lowest Auburn round of the day at 2-under (70) including four birdies on the back nine. Her three-round total of 210 (-6) placed her in a tie for 10th place individually. Weidenfeld's finish is the best of her collegiate career.
Just one stroke behind Weidenfeld was junior Anna Foster in a tie for 13th place individually. Foster carded a 72 (E) in her final round which gave her a 54-hole total of 211 (-5). Tuesday's finish for Foster gives her a top-15 in both tournaments played so far in 2023, as she finished 3rd individually on Wednesday at the Nexus Collegiate.
Freshman Katie Cranston struggled in her round on Tuesday, as she shot 78 in the final round. However, her three round score of 2-under (214) was good enough for a tie of 27th individually. Senior Megan Schofill carded an even par 72 in her final round and also finished at even par for the tournament (216) and a tie for 32nd individually. Redshirt freshman Carys Worby's final round 76 (+4) counted towards Tuesday's team score.
Up next, the Tigers will travel to the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, South Carolina. All three days of the event, which will be played from February 27th through March 1st, will be televised on Golf Channel.
