AUBURN, Ala. – In just her third week eligible for the award, Tiger freshman Kaitlyn Carnicella has been named a recipient of SEC freshman of the week honors for the third consecutive week, the league office announced on Wednesday. This week, Carnicella shares the honor with freshman Rachel Gailis of Florida.

This marks the first time that a player has been tapped as a SEC freshman of the week or SEC co-freshman of the week in three consecutive weeks since Tennessee's Sarah Toti in 2012.

The Whippany, New Jersey native received the honor after winning in both singles and doubles play during Auburn's first dual road match of the season against Texas Tech on Sunday. In doubles, Carnicella and partner DJ Bennett defeated Kate Dmitrichenko and Camryn Stepp by a 6-2 score. Carnicella then defeated Cristina Tiglea in two sets by a 6-4, 6-3 and was the first singles match to finish.

Carnicella and the Tigers will be back in action at the ITA National Indoor Championships being hosted by the University of Washington in Seattle on Friday through Monday. Auburn's first opponent will be Ohio State on Friday at 11:00 a.m. CT.
