AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn track and field team will open the 2023 outdoor season this weekend as it hosts the Tiger Track Classic, Friday and Saturday at Hutsell-Rosen Track on the Auburn campus.
"I am looking forward to the first outdoor meet," Tigers Head Coach Leroy Burrell said. "I am genuinely excited every weekend because we learn something new about our team and I think we have a good product we just need to bring it all together."
Auburn looks to begin a new season after a successful indoor campaign. Three Tigers in Favour Ashe, Kyle Brown, Madi Malone earned First Team All-American honors just a week ago at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Senior Dontavious Hill left Albuquerque with Second Team All-American honors in the men's high jump. Brown, Hill, and Malone will be back inaction this weekend to kick start their outdoor season.
The Tiger Track Classic will also mark the return of events like javelin, hammer throw, discus, 400m hurdles and the 3000m steeplechase. Several Tigers will make their season debuts in said events this weekend, including senior All-American Malone who is set to compete in the hammer throw Friday at 4 p.m. CT.
The men's hammer throw will signal the start of Friday's field action at 2 p.m. CT while the men's 5000m will commence running events at 7:55 p.m. CT.
Facing off against the Tigers this weekend will be competitors from 17 other schools, including Ole Miss and Florida State.
Live results for the meet can be found at DetlaTiming.com and admission is free.
