AUBURN, Ala. – Senior Cassie Stevens of the Auburn gymnastics team was named the Southeastern Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for gymnastics, the league announced Friday.
Stevens earned the program's seventh scholar honor from the conference. That ties Alabama for the most by any program in the sport.
Stevens, a Phoenix, Arizona product owns a 4.00 grade-point average in information systems management. She is a three-time Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Scholastic All-American and is a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree. She has earned a spot on the Winter SEC Academic Honor Roll twice and on the 2019-20 First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll.
As an athlete, Stevens has been one of the most consistent gymnasts on the team's roster since she arrive on campus. This season, she has competed in the all-around in all but one meet and is among the top 20 nationally in the category. She has earned three all-around titles this season along with three on vault, one on bars and one on beam.
During her senior campaign, Stevens has set or tied career highs on vault (9.975), bars (9.925), beam (9.950) and floor (9.925). She has scored a 39.500 or higher in the all-around six times this season, including a season-high 39.600. Her scores have counted 37 times out of a possible 39 routines this year.
In addition, Stevens is a member of the 2020 SEC All-Freshman Team and the 2021 All-SEC team.
