Schofill with runner-up finish at SEC Championship

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Auburn senior Megan Schofill finished as the individual runner-up at the SEC Championship in Birmingham, Alabama on Friday. As a team, the Tigers finished with a final round score of 292 (+4) to grab a second place finish on the leaderboard. Auburn has advanced to the match play portion of the SEC Championship and will face No. 4 South Carolina in the quarterfinal round on Saturday.
 
"Overall, I felt like I played really solid for three rounds of golf," Schofill said after the round. "Obviously I came up a little bit short, but it's a really hard golf course. I felt like I hit a lot of fairways and greens and did a lot of things right. My game is trending in the right direction for postseason, which is always good."
 
Schofill shot a final round 74 (+2) for a 54-hole total of 213 (-3) The senior was also the second-place individual finisher in the SEC Championship in 2022. The finish marks the Monticello, Florida native's fourth top-5 finish of the season and the ninth of her college career.
 
Auburn has qualified for the match play portion of in every season the that the SEC Championship has been held since the format was introduced in 2018. The Tigers have also finished the three rounds of stroke play in the top-5 in five consecutive SEC Championships.
"There has been a lot of good golf, with a little bit of rocky golf here and there," Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said about the past three rounds. "I feel like we need to clean up some missed short putts. If we are able to clean that up, I think that we will fare very well in match play. Kudos to Megan [Schofill] for great play. A little bit of a struggle in the middle of the back nine today, but overall played really well."
 
Junior Anna Foster recorded a top-10 finish, as her three-round total of 219 (+3) placed her in a tie for 10th place. Foster fired a final round 1-over 73 that included two birdies on the card. This is Foster's second top-10 of the season and the ninth of her Auburn career.
 
Freshman Katie Cranston also shot a 1-over 73 on Friday, which brought her three-day total to 223 (+7). Cranston finished in a tie for 18th place on the leaderboard. Redshirt freshman Casey Weidenfeld had her best round of the tournament in her final round, as she fired an even par 72. Weidenfeld's strong final round helped her jump up 17 spots on the individual leaderboard, as her 54-hole total of 226 (+10) led to a tie for 28th place finish.
 
Auburn is set to face South Carolina in the quarterfinal round of the SEC Championship on Saturday morning with the first parings being set for 7:50 a.m. CT. The winner of the match will advance to the semifinal round that will be played later in the day on Saturday.
