KENNESAW, Ga. – Redshirt freshman Carys Worby leads the Auburn individuals through the first round of the Pinetree Women's Collegiate in Kennesaw, Georgia. Worby is in a tie for third place with a 3-under 141 after two rounds.
"Pinetree Country Club is a very tricky course with tree-lined fairways, severe doglegs and sloping greens," Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said after the round. "Carys [Worby] navigated the course beautifully with a bogey-free round in the afternoon. She told me it was her first ever round without a bogey. Even better since she stuck it close on the final hole. Weather was cold and rainy so we are looking forward to it being in the 70s and sunny tomorrow!"
After shooting an even-par 72 in her first 18 holes, Worby fired a bogey-free 69 (-3) in her second 18 holes. Monday's second round is the lowest round in Worby's career, breaking her previous record of 71 that was set during the first round of the Nexus Collegiate earlier this season.
Freshman Sophie Anand finished the day inside the top 20 individually, as she is in a tie for 17th place after firing a 150 (+6) through her 36 holes on Monday. Anand fired a 4-over 76 followed by a 2-over 74 featuring three birdies over both rounds. The freshman is tied for best in the field in par three scoring, as she has played them at 2-under through both rounds.
In her second tournament of the season, junior Ashley-Sinclair Curtis shot 76 in both rounds for a 36-hole total of 152 (+8). Curtis is currently in a tie for 24th on the leaderboard.
Freshman Rachel Gourley shot 84 in her opening round (+12), but bounced back in her second round and improved by 10 strokes with a 2-over 74. Her two-round total of 158 (+14) places her in a tie for 38th place individually.
Auburn will compete in the final round of the Pinetree Women's Collegiate on Tuesday, which will be a shotgun start at 8 a.m. CT. The four Tigers will play Tuesday's round alongside players from Monmouth and Niagara. Live scoring of the final round will be available online at Golfstat.com and the Golfstat mobile app.
