HOUSTON, Texas – The Auburn track and field team recorded 13 event wins and 16 personal-bests at the Cameron Burrell Invitational at the University of Houston Friday.
Despite the cold and wet conditions, the Tigers had strong performances at the Carl Lewis International Complex, Tom Tellez Track in the return for Auburn first-year head coach Leroy Burrell. Burrell was a standout athlete at Houston and longtime head coach at UH before coming to the Plains in the summer of 2022.
The men's 4x100m relay team soared across the line ahead of the competition clocking 40.60 to capture gold. Sophomore Favour Ashe, and freshmen Ian Myers, Charlie Sexton and Azeem Fahmi joined forces for the first time this season.
Seniors Eric Ebel and Madi Malone swept the men's and women's hammer throw titles. Ebel threw 65.48m/214-10 to lead the Tigers to a 1-2-3-4 finish followed by senior Kyle Brown (65.15m/213-09), junior Kyle Moison (64.94m/213-00) and freshman John Leonard (57.46m/188-06). On his final throw of the competition, Leonard notched a new personal best. Malone won with a best mark of 65.13m/213-08.
The men's shot put saw a podium sweep from Matthew Rueff, Ethan Richter, and Grant Griffin. Rueff threw a new personal-best 18.04m/59-02.25 to finish first followed by Richter at 17.33m/56-10.25 and Griffin 17.21m/56-05.75. Rueff was two for two as he also won the discus throw launching one 48.04m/157-07 on his final throw of the competition.
In his second 400m race of the season, sophomore Luke Roberts ran a new personal-best 48.58 to secure the win. Senior Lalah Hasbrouck won gold in the women's 400m hurdles with a season-best 1:02.40.
Other notable performances came by way of freshmen Alyssa Quinones-Mixon and Rex Green. Quinones-Mixon won the women's pole vault clearing a new best of 4.00m/13-01.50. Green won the men's 1500m crossing the line in a new personal-best 3:55.93 to beat two of the home team to the line.
Sophomore Hannah Thuss capped the meet off with a twenty second personal-best in the women's 3,000m. Senior Sara Pacer finished fourth in 10:37.70.

The Auburn track and field team will split the squad between the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California April 13-15 and the Tom Jones Invite in Gainesville, Florida April 14-15.
