Women’s golf completes first round of NCAA San Antonio Regional

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – No. 7 Auburn finished its first of three rounds at the NCAA San Antonio Regional on Monday. The Tigers finished the round in eighth place on the team leaderboard with a 16-over 304.

"We really started out struggling on the front nine and were able to right the ship a bit on the back nine," said Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen. "This course is tough and we will make some adjustments after learning more about the course. We will be ready to go tomorrow morning. As poorly as we played today, we can still win this tournament!"

Senior Megan Schofill, in her 100th career round played for Auburn, led the team with a 73 (+1) in the opening round. Schofill finished the round well on Monday, as she shot 1-under with two birdies on the second nine and is currently in a tie for 11th place individually. In addition to playing her 100th career round, the Monticello, Florida native also recorded her 300th career birdie during her opening round and is now eighth in program history in total birdies.

Junior Elina Sinz battled back from recording two double bogeys on her front nine to finish her opening round at 4-over (76). Sinz is now in a tie for 27th place on the individual leaderboard through the opening 18 holes. Redshirt freshman Casey Weidenfeld finished just a stroke behind her teammate, as she carded a 77 (+5) which places her in a tie for 34th individually.

Freshman Katie Cranston was the final score that was used towards the team total during the opening round, as she finished with a 6-over 78 and in a tie for 41st individually.

The top five teams and top individual (not on a top five team) of the 54-hole tournament, which will continue Tuesday and Wednesday, will advance to the championship finals at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Auburn will begin the second round at 8 a.m. CT on the 10th hole at TPC San Antonio on Tuesday and will be paired with players from Denver and Sam Houston. Live scoring of Tuesday's round will be available online at Golfstat.com and the Golfstat mobile app.
