AUBURN, Ala. – After aiding men's golf in a top-10 national finish a season ago, Tigers volunteer assistant coach Buddy Alexander has been promoted to assistant coach for both the Auburn men's and women's golf programs, head coaches Melissa Luellen and Nick Clinard announced Monday.
"What a thrill and honor to have a hall of fame coach join our staff," Luellen said. "Buddy brings years of coaching and playing experience, which will benefit our team greatly. Not only will our women grow under his guidance, but he is someone Coach Kim and I will learn from as well."
Alexander joined the men's staff last fall and helped the team in manufacturing one of the most notable runs in its 75-year history. Not only did the Tigers rack up a school-record five victories, but they also produced a pair of All-Americans and three months as the No. 1 team in the nation during the 2022-23 season.
"We are so lucky to have Buddy take on a larger role within our program," Clinard said. "He had already proven himself as a formidable coach in the SEC, but last season, he also proved to be a crucial piece of our success here at Auburn. Not only is he a tremendous peer for Coach Williams and I to work alongside, but he also has great connectivity with our players. Each of our guys respect his experiences and enjoy soaking up the wisdom he has to offer. We're excited to move forward with Buddy on staff as the future of Auburn golf has never looked brighter."
Prior to Auburn, Alexander served as the head coach of Georgia Southern University (1977-80), Louisiana State University (1982-87) and the University of Florida (1988-2014). Alexander is a seven-time SEC Coach of the Year and a three-time NCAA Coach of the Year. He owns 10 total SEC titles and a pair of national championships after leading the Gators to victory in 1993 and 2001.
