AUBURN, Ala. – Jack Burton, who spent last season with Florida Gulf Coast, has been named the newest assistant coach for the Auburn Volleyball program head coach Brent Crouch announced Wednesday.
"My wife Cori and I want to thank Athletics Director John Cohen, Senior Associate AD Joy Vrbka and head coach Brent Crouch for this opportunity," said Burton. "We could not be more excited to be a part of the Auburn family. I look forward to working with each of these amazing student-athletes and this entire staff to continue building upon the success they've already accomplished. It is truly an honor to work here and I cannot wait to get started. War Eagle!"
While in Fort Myers, Burton helped the Eagles to a 26-7 record, including a 13-3 mark in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Burton's guidance led FGCU to its second straight ASUN tournament title and the school's third trip to the NCAA Tournament.
"Jack is going to be a substantial addition to an already deep, first-class staff. His expertise will lift all areas of our program from practice planning to recruiting. I'm particularly excited for him to help with the development of our outside hitters and scouting. Jack's character, integrity and overall demeanor will perfectly fit what Auburn Volleyball is all about. We are delighted to welcome him and his wife Cori to the Plains."
FGCU's 26 wins were one shy of a program record. Burton's stop in Fort Myers also featured a power five win over Maryland, 17 sweeps and a season-best RPI of 31.
During the 2022 campaign, FGCU also picked up five ASUN postseason honors including the player of the year in senior outside hitter Lily Felts. Felts would garner national attention, picking up an AVCA All-America honorable mention distinction as well.
Prior to his work in the Sunshine State, Burton spent two years as a volunteer assistant with the Dayton Flyers. In two seasons in Ohio, Burton helped lead the Flyers to its highest AVCA ranking in school history at No. 26. While in Dayton, he aided the development of two All-Americans, three first team all-region honorees, two A-10 Athletes of the Year, two conference Setters of the Year, two Players of the Year, the Libero of the Year and nine All-Conference selections.
Before arriving in Dayton, Burton spent time as an assistant for the Prestige Volleyball in Arizona and Club 1 Boy's Volleyball in Illinois.
A graduate of Grand Canyon University, Burton was a standout outside hitter for the Lopes. Featuring in 83 matches, he was voted team captain for both the 2019 and 2020 seasons and earned MIVA Academic All-Conference as Freshman. Burton graduated with a bachelor's degree in exercise science with an emphasis in sports performance training.
