AUBURN, Ala. – Rounding out a decorated class of incoming freshmen, infielder Gianna Poletti completes Auburn softball's 2023 class.
Head coach Mickey Dean announced the addition of Poletti on Thursday. The Hegins, Pennsylvania, native will join five other incoming freshmen on the Plains this fall.
"Gianna is a very versatile middle infielder," Dean said of Poletti. "She's played a high level of competitive softball throughout her career and has won at every level."
A two-sport athlete at Tri-Valley High School, Poletti was a three-time All-State First Team selection at shortstop. In her debut season, Poletti posted a .539 average at the plate coupled with a .588 on base percentage and an .893 slugging clip with help of 11 doubles and five home runs. Poletti swiped 28 bases, scored 46 runs and totaled 28 RBI to be named Rookie of the Year. She also added Republican Herald All-Area First Team honors that season as she led Tri-Valley to District 11 and Single A State championships.
In 2022, Poletti returned with .562 batting average while also besting her on base (.611) and slugging (.913) numbers. Knocking 21 doubles, two triples and one home run, Poletti totaled 22 RBI and scored 27 runs. She stole 17 bases that season. She repeated as a Republican Herald All-Area First Team selection and added a 2022 Schuylkill Softball Coaches Association All-Area First Team selection. Tri-Valley repeated as the District 11 champions and won the Schuylkill League championship.
This past season, Polletti totaled 47 hits for a .573 batting average and a .617 on-base percentage. She drove in 28 runs and ranked 12th in the state of Pennsylvania according in MaxPreps in runs scored with 41. Tri-Valley won its third consecutive District 11 championship and returned as 1A State champs. Poletti was also honored as an all-area shortstop for her efforts.
Poletti competed with TNT 18u Gold National on the club scene, holding a batting average above .320 in every season of competition with the organization.
In the classroom, Poletti has earned a spot on the distinguished honor roll. She served as the school's president of the National Honor Society and won a Woodmen of the World award.
