Auburn to send five men to 2023 U.S. Amateur

AUBURN, Ala.  –  Auburn men's golf will send five student-athletes to compete at the 123rd edition of the U.S. Amateur in Cherry Hills Village, Colorado.
 
Seniors Carson Bacha and J.M. Butler will be competing for a second straight year while junior Brendan Valdes and freshmen Jackson Koivun and Cayden Pope will all be making their career debuts at the
event.
 
Butler and Koivun received exemption status as top-50 points leaders in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR) while Bacha, Pope and Valdes all punched their tickets via various qualifiers.
 
Dually hosted by Cherry Hills Country Club and Colorado Golf Club, the U.S. Amateur hosts 312 of the nation's top amateur golfers who will compete all week long for top honors. Monday, Aug. 14 and Tuesday, Aug. 15 will see the men square off in 36 holes of stroke play before cutting the field to 64 to commence match play on Wednesday, Aug. 17.
 
The event will culminate with a 36-hole championship match on Sunday, Aug. 20.
 
Television coverage will be provided via Peacock and The Golf Channel beginning with Wednesday's opening round of match play at 2 p.m. CT.
 
Notable past winners of the U.S. Amateur include Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Matt Fitzpatrick, Bryson DeChambeau, and most recently, Sam Bennett.
