Auburn represented by four athletes at 2023 World Athletics Championships

 AUBURN, Ala.—Current Auburn student-athletes Favour Ashe and Azeem Fahmi along with former Tigers Donald Thomas and Elkanah Kibet will compete at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, August 19-27, in Budapest, Hungary. Ashe and Fahmi will race in the men's 100m dash on Saturday with Thomas in the men's high jump Sunday. Kibet will compete in the men's marathon on the final day of competition.
 
A freshman this past season, Fahmi will run in the second heat of the preliminary rounds at 5:35 a.m. CT (12:35 p.m. local) for his home country of Malaysia. Fahmi will look to advance and join Ashe in heat rounds that will begin at 2:43 p.m. CT (9:43 p.m. local).  Auburn's 100m school record holder and two-time All-American in his first season as a Tiger, Ashe will race for his native Nigeria.
 
No stranger to the championships, Thomas will be making his ninth appearance in the world meet. A native of the Bahamas and Auburn resident, the 39-year-old won the world championships in his debut in 2007. A national champion high jumper indoors at Auburn in 2007, Thomas will compete in qualifying rounds on Sunday at 3:35 a.m. CT (10:35 a.m. local).
 
Kibet will be racing in his fourth marathon at the world championships after finishing 24th last year in Eugene, Oregon and Representing the United States, Kibet ran at Auburn in 2009-10. The men's marathon will be staged on the final day of competition, on Sunday, August 27 at 7 a.m. local time.
 
The World Athletics Championships are a nine-day event that will bring together nearly 2000 athletes from 200 countries to compete for 49 titles from August 19-27. The event will be held inside the National Athletics Centre located on the eastern bank of the Danube River on the south side of the city.
