AUBURN, Ala. – A handful of Auburn gymnasts have used the summer to gain valuable experiences not only in their area of study, but also for life in the future whether they stay in the United States or travel abroad.
Senior Olivia Hollingsworth went back to Texas to gain more experience in the medical field as she prepares for her future in medicine.
Q: Where did you spending your summer and what was your role?
A: "I worked as a summer scholar for Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) at UT Health. My project this summer was to update patient records and create individual surveillance and management recommendation sheets for each TSC patient. I also had the opportunity to shadow pediatric physicians from various specialties like neurology, nephrology, clinical genetics and genomics."
Q: What made you interested in this position?
A: "I was interested in this internship because I wanted to experience meaningful patient-physician interactions, and I wanted to learn more about this rare genetic disease."
Q: How did Auburn help you prepare for this position this summer?
A: "Auburn helped me develop my ability to work professionally with others from diverse backgrounds and with differing perspectives."
Q: What made you interested in the area of study you're pursuing at Auburn?
A: "I have always been interested in the medical field, so I knew I wanted to pursue a degree in biomedical science at Auburn."
Q: What are your plans after you graduate from Auburn?
A: "I plan on attending medical school."
Q: How have you been able to balance school and prepare yourself for life at Auburn, while also being a successful student-athlete?
A: "I have been able to balance both my academic and athletic careers by working closely with my professors and coaches to develop the best plan possible to help me achieve my goals."
